Review of Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (1987) by Gerald D — 19 Aug 2012

Superman IV, this movie is really the bottom of the barrel. The story is the only part of this movie that is any good. Nuclear Man! I mean who can go wrong with that villain. You got Luthor and his weird nephew (no Otis, that really brought this movie down.

You can't have Luthor without Otis) creating Nuclear Man to kill Superman. All the while the Daily Planet is going through some changes. This is all fine and dandy. Some kid wants Superman to rid the world of Nuclear weapons.

So Superman does it. By then, the movie is getting boring, already 45 minutes in and no Nuclear man. At least the other Superman films had some disaster that Superman had to fix but not in this one. Then Nuclear Man comes and it is revealed that he cannot function without light.

I thought that was really cheap because all superman would have to do is lock him in the closet or something. So Superman and Nuclear guy meet and have a really cheesy chase scene with the low budget of this movie really showing.

Then its just random acts a violence by the villain. Reminiscent of Superman II only with a much worse execution. Then Superman gets sick and the movie gets boring and full of plot holes. Why doesn't Nuclear Man just kill him? It makes no sense.

So Lois has to help him out and then Superman goes and fights Nuclear Man again (more cheesy graphics) and dumps nuclear man on the moon in an elevator. Thinking his work is done Superman turns away. But no the Elevator wasnt light proof so the sun woke Nuclear Man up and he pounds Superman into the moon.

By this point the movie is beyond salvaging. Superman doesnt die and he goes and dumps nuclear man into a nuclear plant and that's that. A complete wast of 90 minutes. This movie was terrible and worst of all it ended Christopher Reeve's career as Superman.
