Review of Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (1987) by Mat D — 07 Dec 2011
Gene Hackman can't save this horrible movie. He's not bad and neither is Christopher Reeve. It's the horrible special effects, ridiculous fight scenes(they fight in space with Mariel Hemmingway along for the ride, and she breathes just fine. Superman also has a "rebuilding the Great Wall of China" power) that sinks the movie. Jon Cryer is great as Lenny, the "dutch elm disease" of Luthor's family tree. But once Margot Kidder turns on the waterworks(again), and the kid whining I wish superman would have said yes and the awful special effects and fight scenes, the movie is really weighed down.
It's a shame too, because I've heard they were going to put more money into it with better effects and even a 2nd Nuclear Man but they decided not to. This could have been special.
