Review of Superman III (1983) by Patrick M — 11 Sep 2012
Superman at his silliest. Well, after Superman IV of course. Reeve again delivers as Clark Kent/Superman and clearly relishes getting the chance to play a bad Superman (a horny vandal that drinks and doesn't save anybody).
Unfortunately, they don't spend enough time exploring this subplot or Superman in general and Reeve has to share the spotlight with Richard Pryor who really hams up the screen with tons of slapstick.
Pryor's character drives the main plot involving a supercomputer and an evil businessman. The evil businessman, Ross Webster, just seems like a rip off of Lex Luther. The movie really tries to send the audience home with some bullshit message about the dangers computers and fails horribly, as it's obvious the writers have very little understanding of computers themselves.
Overall, it's campy and the humor usually fails but the movie still can be fun and isn't boring unlike the two Superman films that came after it.
