Review of Superman III (1983) by Alasdair B — 04 Jul 2014
Superman 3 is a disaster. Richard Pryor's inclusion in the film was a huge mistake, and the annoying slapstick comedy thrown in the mix is so out of place. The opening credits sequence is one of the dumbest sequences I've ever seen.
Everything in the movie has been done before, and the film takes an hour and a half to finally get interesting, with a cool junkyard battle between Clark Kent and evil Superman. Unfortunately, that's all that is interesting in the film.
The villain is dumb, and for some reason wants to destroy the coffee industry. The climax of the film is really stupid, involving a video game machine where the villain shoots missiles at Superman on the screen and it somehow controls this in real life (really, who's idea was that!?).
Then this supercomputer tries to take over the world and I'm so mentally checked out of the movie at this point. Christopher Reeve still does find as Superman, and is able to pull off evil Superman well.
But one fun action scene cannot savd this really sad installment in the Superman series. Superman ||| gets 1/5 stars (D).
