Review of Superman III (1983) by The Critic ( — 09 May 2012
Director Richard Lester pushes the comic angle in the third 'Superman' film, rubbing devotees of the franchise the wrong way with the casting of Richard Pryor as the accidental villain of the piece.
There's more emphasis on gags in this offering, but that's OK because we're in a comic strip and, more importantly, Christopher Reeve plays it straight. There's also a number of wonderful moments here, including the perfectly cast Annette O'Toole as Clark Kent's love interest Lana Lang, the exploration of Superman's darker side, and a wonderful throw-back to old fashion sci-fi as our hero battles a super computer and human-turned-robot.
