Review of Superman II (1980) by Elian D — 26 Mar 2012
I thought this was great until I saw the Donner Cut. I love them both, but the campiness of this one doesn't fully match the tone of the first (that had some, but less than this one).
Reeves is Superman. Hackman, however - and as much as I love his performances - is more of a generic villain than a Lex Luthor. Stamp is magnificent as Gral Zod and probably the best performance of the movie. Direction is well done by Lester and Donner, and I only favor the latter one's re-cut - as I said before - because I enjoy more its tone.
