Review of Superman II (1980) by Mollz M — 01 Apr 2012
The original version of Superman II is a mixed bag...because it had two different directors with two different styles making it. Sadly backstage conflicts with Richard Donner and the producers (the Salkinds) caused directors to be changed part way through, with actors like Hackman refusing to return for any of his additional scenes or reshoots, and the producers saving money by not using any Brando footage.
This means that occasionally you get a really bad stand-in for Hackman in a few scenes, and odd inconsistencies and plot holes due to the lack of Brando. The lighter happier campier tone isn't too hot either.
I preferred the charming humor of the first film to the sort of "isn't Superman silly?" humor of this film. Zod is awesome though.
