Review of Superman II (1980) by Cody H — 13 Mar 2013
In my opinion, this is the best Superman movie to date. The effects are quite dated which can at times distract me from the story, but I still think in terms of Superman movies, it never got better than this.
The story arc resembles Spider-Man 2 with Superman giving up his powers, but what makes this movie unique is the fact that General Zod is the main villain portrayed flawlessly by Terrence Stamp. Yeah, Lex Luthor is in there a little bit, and I never understood why.
He didn't do very much but it was Gene Hackman and he's awesome, so we let it slide. If you see this movie and judge it for its visuals, you'll give it an F, but if you can just look past that and judge it based on its good character development, its unique story and its great villain, you'll probably really like it.
And for that, Grade: B+.
