Review of Superman II (1980) by Julio D — 30 Jun 2013
Superman II was great right off the bat with some badass villains far more menacing then Luthor and far more grand action sequences. The movie advances further from the first film, giving us more about the relationship between Kent and Lane and having Superman face greater obstacles.
The blue screen shots here oddly date themselves more than the first film, but they're still fairly good for the time. The miniatures and other special effects however are impressive. It retains the cheesy humor that was in the first, more to a degree here, but the film can be slow and take time to pick itself up and a lot of the action is over-the-top to that point where you can't help but burst out loud.
.. not to mention the film does have its own stupidity to some of its plot points and rescue sequences. Nonetheless, Superman II really entertains and its a welcome sequel. Now, onto the Richard Donner cut.
