Review of Superman II (1980) by Andrew D — 13 Aug 2015
As you would expect from a superhero film from the 80's, "Superman 2" is laughably cheesy in parts and incredibly outdated in many respects. The best thing about the movie is the music. The theme song alone is great but the score throughout the film is also very good. The film is very well shot by the two directors. The film also has a very good story. The idea of having a superhero losing their powers would not seem very inventive by today's standards but back then it was new. The acting all around is very good here as well. While some of the jokes seem out of place a lot of them are very funny as well. The negative things about the film are that it goes off to a very slow start. Also the Lex Luthor character played by Gene Hackman serves very little purpose to the overall plot and is really only there to crack jokes which is kind of sad. I also don't think the villains are fleshed out well enough. The visuals are very cheep looking as well. Overall "Superman 2" is a fairly enjoyable and above average film but has many cheesy elements that might not appeal to people looking for something darker.
3/5.
