The first entry into the new DC Animated Universe, Superman: Doomsday, is not as good as it could be. I will admit, the original story that this is based on is also very lacklustre, and clearly a cash-in.

Like the comic, Superman is one-dimensional and boring and the Clone Superman, Lex Luthor, and Jimmy Olsen are all incredibly under-developed. The best character is definitely Lois Lane, who has a large number of 'YES!' moments.

As usual in a Superman film, the action is the main focus, and the action (if a little long) is animated very well. The new character design is also pleasing to look at and allows for far more flexibility than the old Cinematic Universe.

The story, as I said, is very convoluted, and riddled with plot holes. The choice to make this a 12 was a good one; Superman: Doomsday rarely holds back in its depiction of violence, which is important for a character like Doomsday.

Overall, this film is underwhelming, pandering, and uninvolving, but at least it had a few exciting moments.
