Review of Superman: Doomsday (2007) by Will H — 08 Oct 2008
I had high hopes for this after hearing largely good things, I should have known better as I have yet to see a thoroughly good adaptation of Superman to other media. To begin, the movie probably should not be called "Superman:Doomsday" as Doomsday is gone for the last two-thirds of the story. Which would not be so bad if the rest of the film worked, but it didn't. The Doomsday segment was weak on plot, but that was at least somewhat made up for by Doomsday's violent rampage. Post-Doomsday the film really loses steam as it requires us to follow something other than the action sequences. The voice acting was terrible, especially Anne Heche as Lois. The animation was sub-par, the series had better animation and certainly better charcter design - what was with those crazy-ass cheekbones?
I guess fans of Superman will have to continue to wait for a good adaptation. How about "Whatever happened to the Man of Tomorrow," "Superman for all Seasons," or "Birthright"? Anyone?
