Review of Superman: Doomsday (2007) by Luke E — 11 Sep 2010
Superman/Doomsday could - and should - have been the kind of salvation the character needed after the awful Superman Returns. Instead, we got something that's not much better, if at all, a weak and over-simplified version of the 'Death and Return' sage, one of the darker and more intricate storylines in DC comics history.
Granted - it couldn't have all fitted into one movie, both the comics and the novel relying heavily on a huge cast of already-famous and less famous characters, but with the alternate Supermen all condensed into one simplistic character, and with the very rushed ending, the story was totally trivialized.
The fact that the animation is very good - as it is in all of Bruce Timm's productions - make it somewhat enjoyable but the missed potential is too much for even a casual Superman fan like me to take.
