Review of Superman/Batman: Public Enemies (2009) by Andrew C — 19 Oct 2009
Meh. Probably my least favorite of the DC movies. I mean...this is fun, definitely, but the story was never the best team up for them. There's some great lines ripped straight from the book, some great action, and awesome cameos (I was so psyched for Captain Atom, Hawkman and Captain Marvel). That said, this just wasn't enough after the towering successes of Wonder Woman and Green Lantern. Maybe it's too many characters...maybe it just wasn't enough characterization.
That said, I also hate the change at the end of Batman flying the Toyman rocket instead of Captain Atom. It lost the sense of "real." We know Batman ain't dying. That said...Atom's story after this in the books was pretty astounding and perfect for one of these movies. I doubt it would sell, but man, that's what I want.
Anyway. Great action, great animation, fantastic voice work, terrific characters...but not enough to make a full, true DC Animated film.
