Review of Superman/Batman: Apocalypse (2010) by Dave W — 05 Oct 2010
Warner Bros. has outdone themselves again while striving to achieve something yet unseen in this straight to video story uncovering the origins of Supergirl. Kevin Conroy return to voice the Dark Knight and is always welcome as Batman in exploring DC lore.
His exclusion in Under The Red Hood was greatly felt in the community and Warner has now since rectified their mistake. Joining Conroy this time is an outstanding cast including Michael Ironside (Scanners), Summer Glau (Firefly) and ED Asner.
Superman/Batman Apocalypse encapsulates the comics while continuing to uphold the tradition that Warner has been famous for while advancing the genre with each film they produce. Warner has always had a history of producing works with adult like themes involving death and tradgedy and this film is no different is that Warner is taking these themes in a darker direction than their previous direct to video fare.
I would not recommend this film to a younger audience as these themes can be quite dark. Recommended.
