Although the title is misleading as the film does not mainly surround Superman, Batman, nor Apocalypse, but rather Kara (Supergirl), her origin story fits well into the fatherly nature of Superman, Wonder Woman's caring self, and Batman's logic-over-emotion philosophy.
Darkseid makes way for some combat, although it isn't necessary when it's all about Kara and finding her Supergirl identity. However, the film closes on emphasizing this point, and establishing a myriad of future possibilities for the Superman/Girl duo.
