Review of Supergirl (1984) by Scott B — 19 Jun 2007
Okay. So, we have Supergirl, finely played by Helen Slater. We have Peter O'Toole, wandering around looking lost in early and late scenes in the film. We have Hart Bochner, better as a jerk who gets slaughtered in "Terror Train.
" We have Marc McClure as Jimmy Olsen hanging around as if to say, "Hey look! *I'm* in it, this MUST be related to the Superman movies!" We have Faye Dunaway over-acting enough to kill a horse.
Moving past the cast, we have a story with so many plot holes that the viewer is afraid that it will literally fall apart at any moment. All of the above is true but, you know what? I liked Slater in the title role enough to kind of enjoy it.
She's really, really good as the character. Plus, there's enough imagination in the special effects and set design to keep your interest most of the time. All in all, a disjointed, although fun, experience.
I don't know. If you like DC Comics as much as I do, it's not so bad (and it's miles better than Fantastic Four and Ghost Rider.).
