Review of Superbad (2007) by Graeme E — 15 Jun 2013
If I was 17 I would have loved it. It's so completely juvenile and unintelligent that it saddens me. Still, there are a small handful of truthful moments. For example, the sex scene at the end with Michael Cera is painfully honest.
As well as the morning after awkwardness between the two male leads. Lastly, the final moment on the escalator, when Jonah Hill is essentially saying goodbye to not only his best friend, but his entire adolescence, is very touching.
Sadly, they ruin it a moment later by having a montage of erect penis drawings. However, it's worth noting that the target audience (teenage boys) need to end the film with dick jokes because the previous emotional moment wouldn't have been "cool".
Too much emotion! Like I said, as a teenager, the film is perfect. For adults, it's a painful train wreck.
