Review of Superbad (2007) by Josh S — 28 Oct 2015
If Peanuts had swearing and underage drinking in it, it would be a lot like Superbad. It's a fantastic 'coming of age' comedy about a group of geeky school friends and the utter chaos that ensues when they try to buy some booze for a party.
It is rude, crude and hilariously funny with, at heart, a story about friendship and camaraderie which makes it a cut above many other films of this genre. Full marks must go to Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg for a naturalistic and witty script.
Rogan himself makes an appearance in a key role as one of a pair of seriously unhinged, inept cops who provide some fantastically funny moments during the film. This is a movie that has me giggling and sniggering all the way through as the best laid plans of the the three lads spiral increasingly out of control.
The comedy is far from subtle and very politically incorrect in places but the line is never crossed to the point where you don't empathise with the main characters or find them anything less than engaging to watch.
