Review of Super Troopers 2 (2018) by Scott M — 24 Apr 2018

Well sue me I liked this better than the original Super Troopers (2002). It's funny because I still found even this movie to have some pretty long drawn out jokes (this should have definitely come out within the same decade as the last film not freakin 16 years later).

Anywho, it's been quite some time since the last movie and we find that the original Vermont Highway Patrol team has gone off and done their own things after a tragic event involving the actor Fred Savage.

Farva (Kevin Heffernan), Mac (Steve Lemme) and Rabbit (Erik Stolhanske) are carpenters, Thorny (Jay Chandrasekhar) has become a lumberman and then Foster (Paul Soter) is just kinda around. The gang all get called up to the Canadian border under the guise of a hunting trop hosted by Captain O'Hagan (Brian Cox), but in truth he's reinstated them to become Highway Patrolman again.

The reasoning behind this is utterly ridiculous, but here we go. It turns out the borders of the USA and Canada were incorrect and there is a section of Vermont that actually extends over. So during the transition period it's up to the gang to work with the local Canadian police force to ensure a peaceful transition.

Unfortunately, it doesn't go all too well and soon the gang discover another drug ring that is happening right under their noses again. So yeah the plot is pretty far fetched, but hey it works for the most part and I actually thought it flowed better than the first movie.

The jokes here are funny, but a few are extremely played out or direct references to the first film.I especially enjoyed the Canadian police and their banter between each other. The movie also stars Rob Lower as Mayor Guy LeFranc who also has a few funny scenes in it himself.

Now onto the real gripes. A few of the jokes go on waaaaay too long. Like we get it. There's even some one liners that are forcefully thrown here that got more of a groan from the crowd than an actual laugh.

The plot is bare bones and we really are just watching this to support Broken Lizard so Potfest can finally come out let's face it. Overall, fans of the original will like this one a lot. Everyone else this is a rental when it comes out.
