Review of Super Size Me (2004) by Skyview B — 05 Mar 2013
Introduction:
Super-Size me is about a grown adult that goes on a McDonalds diet for a month. This diet was not all that healthy for he would eat McDonalds three times a day for this entire month. His point was to prove that the main reason for obesity in American is fast food restaurants. Also not only was it bad enough that he had to eat McDonalds for a month he could only order supersize me meals and had to eat everything on the menu at least once. The film demonstrates the effects of fast food and the changes it can make to your health.
Plot Summary:
Towards the beginning of Morgan's change in diet, it doesn't really effect him, but after a week he experiences feeling irritable, tired, and depressed. He began to gain a pound a day and physical activities tired him easily. Towards the middle he realizes the weight he is gaining and still continues to do the documentary and eat fast food. At the end he concludes that fast food is dangerous and his doctors explain to him that he may have lost all the weight but he damaged his liver badly.
Documentary Elements:
Morgan's main reason to create this film was to show what fast food can do to your mental and physical health. He used interviews b-roll and lots more to warn the viewers. There was definitely bias in this film. You could easily tell that Morgan was against fast food.
Technical Elements:
The music set the mood for the film and showed how fast food was effecting Morgan through out the movie.
Conclusion:
This movie was definitely eye opening and creative, but I don't believe it's a must-see. Many people are already aware of the effects fast food does to your body, so this film was just adding to that.
