Review of Super Dark Times (2017) by Hady M — 02 Sep 2018
First feature film directed by Kevin Phillips.
You can tell by the title of the film, it portrays a Super Dark Theme.
Paranoia. Violence. Fear. Consequences. Guilt.
This is a film that really portrays the dark themes and says a lot about the world we live in, and how everything we do has a consequence, be it good or bad. It is pretty scary in a way as to how one accident can destroy lives in quick way.
Two best friends meet up with a bully and an accident happens. And right when it happens, we see how the two friends' relationship deteriorate throughout the film. From best buddies to enemies. Love to hate. Innocence to guilt.
Super Dark Times surprised me by its portrayal of romance and respect for women. When he had the opportunity, the protagonist did not take advantage of the girl he likes. That is respect. It also plays into how every choice matters.
What makes it more cool is the film's score. Director Kevin Phillips did a wonderful job in the film's score, knowing when and when not to put in that intense music.
The actors in this film are pretty much unknown and are just regular students from the area. Even without major experience in acting, the actors did an amazing job in their portrayals. Portraying a character who is troubled with guilt and paranoia isn't easy.
I would definitely recommend Super Dark Times to people who wants to watch something meaningful, dark, and intense, at the same time.
