Review of Super 8 (2011) by Jack K — 26 Jan 2013
There's something rather special about J.J. Abrams, the director evokes, Super 8 producer, Steven Spielberg in much the same way that the film evokes Spielberg's E.T. It has a great story, an unbelievable story, intertwined with sci-fi and a truck load of special effects, but at the heart of Super 8 is a warm, familiar relationship, as it all takes place through the eyes of kids.
Evoking the innocent and nostalgic summer blockbusters of the 70s and 80s, Super 8 also brings Abrams' penchant for mystery, production value (as Super 8's own Charles would say) and, yes, lens flare to make this something wholly new too.
The ending is quite something, but it's the quieter moments where the film really shines.
