Review of Super 8 (2011) by James S — 26 May 2013
This film is a better-than average horror film. Unfortunately, I am not an aficionado of horror films, as I find them trying way too hard to be clever, and often see the filmmaking as disingenuous. The story is simple enough: a group of kids witness an accident, and immediately afterwards things start to go wrong, people go missing, and its up to them to make it right.
The film paces along with the characters, but the main plot always seems to be in the background, and we don't get any useful information until the third act. I enjoyed much more watching these teenagers trying to make their own Super 8 movie more; it added some nice storytelling and fun comedic moments. This of course, is all but abandoned halfway through the movie.
You may enjoy it more if you like horror. I, personally, was mildly bored.
