Review of Super 8 (2011) by Renzo V — 15 Jul 2014
"6 TEENAGE FRIENDS, 1 TRAINCASH AND 1 TERRIFYING MYSTERY...".
- 'Super 8' is a 2011 sci-fi movie directed and co-produced by JJ Abrams (Lost, Star Trek reboots) and directed by Steven Spielberg (Jurassic Park, ET). The storyline deals with 6 kids who witness a train disaster while shooting a super 8 film. I must say I'm a big fan of this film, because it has everything the child in me dreams about: lots of action, on the edge of your seat suspense, a perfect mystery and a good youthful cast, and the whole thing wrapped with stunning special effects. Needless to say that I would defiantly recommend on seeing it.
1979, four months after his mother died in a factory accident, 14-year old Joe Lamb agrees to help his best friend Charles Kaznyk make a low-budget zombie-movie. Together with pyromaniac Cary, cameraman Preston and leading star Martin, they start their filming on the first day of the summer vacation. Because they also need someone to fill in the female role, Charles has asked Alice Dainard, who's father Louis is the least favorite person of Joe's father Jack. While shooting a scène at the local train station, the kids witness how a pickup truck drives onto the tracks and rams the incoming train. A series of explosions follow. The 6 children are unharmed and surprised to see that the driver of the pickup who has miraculously survived the crash is one of their teachers. He warns them to leave the place. The following day the friends find out that whatever was onboard the train has now got its grip on their hometown. Can they unravel the mystery?
