Review of Super 8 (2011) by Brendan K — 17 Aug 2013
JJ Abrams I a Phoenix of entertainment. Rising from the ashes of garbage like "Felicity" and "Alias" to give us the most memorable and powerful science fiction epics of this generation. Hopefully he can extend this magic into the upcoming Star Wars trilogy.
True, this film uncannily reproduces the Spielberg films of the 80s but those crying about it being a rip-off have obviously done no reading about the production if the movie. Spielberg was heavily involved in its development and Abrams has stated numerous times that it was his intent to "remake" the films of his childhood with an original story. The accuracy with which he reproduces the soul of those films is nothing short of astounding. Super 8 effortlessly stands beside E.T. and Goonies.
Many of the negative user reviews here are nonsensical gibberish. This isn't supposed to be anything more than what it is- Abrams thank you to Spielberg for inspiring him as a child to become what he is today.
