Review of Super 8 (2011) by C H — 28 Mar 2013
Very entertaining movie. JJ Abrams basically just made a movie homage to Spielberg but it works very well. The whole movie hearkens back to movie making of the late 70s early 80s taking its biggest inspirations from Jaws and ET.
It was like going back in time and enjoying that period all over again. Using the less is more for the alien/monster is something that movie makers have forgotten. This was, thankfully, more about the story than effects.
Is the story totally original? No, its is basically your coming of age type story set in a sci-fi movie but the young stars performed well enough to take you along for the ride and have it feel believable.
At the end of the movie you have to ask yourself, "Did this entertain me?" For me it was a YES. Finally, seeing the Super 8 movie that the kids were shooting as part of the plot with the end credits was a nice add-on.
If you are a fan of classic Steven Spielberg you will enjoy this movie.
