James Gunn follows up Slither with pure gold. On the surface it's similar to Kick-Ass but in the end it's so much more and better. And I liked Kick-Ass. But this took the realistic approach to an everyday man deciding to fight evil rather then a stylized comic.

You get consequences here by the hand of a man with pipe wrench. Rainn Wilson fits into this role perfectly. No one else could have played this part better. Going from loser to hero back and forth through out the film is a great manifestation to watch.

I can now forgive Ellen Page for Juno. She was sublime. Sickly sublime. Wonderfully insane, murderous, schizophrenic, lusting, yet endearing and lovable Libby. Her best performance and role to date. Kevin Bacon makes a great villain as he has shown many times and again refuses to let me down.

The violence here is something very interesting. Almost a character by itself. It's very effective and surreal to the point where in other movies it's the time where we snap back to reality and realize what we witnessed was a fantasy being acted out in the characters mind.

But then you see the guy who butt in line isn't getting up from being struck in the head with a pipe wrench. And you think... wait this is James Gunn's mind so that happened. No fantasy here. The one problem I had was that I felt it was too short and much more could have been done with all the characters.

But stretch it out too far and it'll just a parody and lose everything that is so great about this. So I remain happy with what I got.
