Review of Super (2010) by Claudio D — 23 Jan 2012
This movie leaves me very frustrated. I loved it. It made me laugh, cry, and keep watching. But no one character has any redeeming qualities, the splatter is uselessly ludicrous (and without the grotesque humor of Kick-Ass and Scott Pilgrim), and the existential nihilism is unbearably sophomoric.
Oh really? There's no meaning to life, love, or random violence? How interesting! Tell me more!........ not. The "rape" scene is hilarious and Page is exceptional (here Ellen, meet me in the back alley at midnight, k?).
Even Wilson, whom I typically dislike, performs well. Yet I can't shake the feeling that I have just watched a whole steaming of pile of bah. Let's just say it's a naughty pleasure. I enjoyed it and I know I shouldn't have.
Bad, bad Claudio.
