Review of Super (2010) by Rory D — 08 Apr 2012
Loved it.
Sort of like Kick Ass meets Alan Partridge, but without the big budget polish that Kick Ass exudes, for me, there are also echoes of 'Mystery Men' in it, in that the protagonists are sad-sack wannabes, but this takes that premise a whole step further, by forgoing the futuristic sci-fi glamour of MM's Champion City, and placing them in an everyday framework. As a result, they look even more ridiculous. I have to admit that some of the violence in it is extreme and occasionally doesn't sit right within the overall feel of the film, but I am happy to forgive it it's faults.
The bottom line is, imagine that nerd you knew in school deciding to become a super hero, stitching a dogs dinner of an outfit together and going out to solve crime with a pipe wrench as a weapon. Imagine how funny that would be, and you have this film in a nutshell.
