Review of Super (2010) by Turin C — 10 Jan 2015
Not surprised that a lot of critics did not like this movie. This was basically a Troma movie, but with a much bigger budget and actors. I enjoyed Super. It's really dark (especially when one of the characters is shot in the head near the end of the movie), but it's funny and sometimes charming at the same time. It's a bit thin in plot, but I enjoyed the main characters Crimson Bolt and Boltie enough to overlook such a simple premise.
It loses some of its steam later on in the movie, but the final showdown was action packed enough to get right back in to the movie. I was also surprised by the overly sentimental ending that felt out of nowhere, yet somehow fit and was a bit sad. James Gunn did something similar in Guardians of the Galaxy where you don't expect such a sappy moment to happen.
It's nothing too special though. It's very enjoyable, but nothing memorable or original. The same thing was done about 15 years earlier with Orgazmo. Still, this is like the perfect rental movie. Watch it, have fun, be entertained, then move on.
