Review of Sunshine Cleaning (2008) by Kevin N — 13 Dec 2010
Try as I might, I couldn't find this film's real pulse- though a superb performance by Amy Adams and a pretty good one by Emily Blunt almost had me fooled. The problem is that no matter how good the actors are at saying the lines, the lines have to be real for them to take on any weight.
Megan Holley is the writer behind these ones, and though a lot of times the script falls flat there is promise somewhere within this voice. Christine Jeffs doesn't do much with the film visually, and a lot of false feeling is milked from over-editing; however, she knows and trusts the cast to carry the film's drama, and at the very least this is an exercise in strong characters played by strong actors.
