Everything about this told me it should have been one of those quirky intelligent indie comedies. Didn't really end up with that. The film deals with some dark subject matter and poignantly explores grief and family dysfunction but maintains a positive outlook and contains some solid situational laughs.

The combination of an smart writing, likable characters and great performances make the film. These characters talk and interact like real people and there's a naturalism in the way their relationships develop.

Some of the relationships with sub-characters aren't followed through on or left in the wind which felt more true to life to me then anything this offered. Amy Adams, of course, is an absolute delight.

Something about her girl-next-door good looks combined with raw natural talent that produces some of the best facial expressions you'll ever see making her the perfect choice for this type of role.

Emily Blunt is a great choice to team Adams up with as a sister. It's Blunt's sharp portrayal and her character's story arc that provide the film its emotional weight. Both actresses deserve awards for this one.

And on a final note... Clifton Collins Jr. I love this actor. He is a true one. No movie is too big or small for him. And that goes for roles either. Either it's one or two scene part or the majority of the movie.

Always a welcoming presence.
