Review of Sunshine Cleaning (2008) by Torah D — 23 Mar 2012
If it weren't for its two leads, this movie wouldn't even be watchable. But it is - and it's only due to Amy Adams and Emily Blunt's performances.
This film is so dramatic it starts to feel foolish. However, these two Wonder Girls, together with a solid Alan Arkin, lift it up and get to help it make t the surface - and be just above the line.
Everything Adams touches becomes gold. There is absolutely no doubt that she is the strongest of all candidates to succeed Meryl Streep. Even with such a melacholic character, she can lighten up the film and pleasure us. With her, every tear of sadness has a bit of joy to it - that's the power of her magic. Absolutely Brilliant.
Emily Blunt also puts up a fight in the competition for Streep's successor. This wonderful actress is growing everyday and is becoming a serious case of marvelous acting. Giving her character a lighter yet more declining tone, she manages to thrill us with a spectacularly delivered performance. Stunning - Simply Stuning.
Alan Arkin is like a taylor in this movie: he designs the suits but stands in the backstage, letting Adams and Blunt share the spotlight. They use his suit, and shine with - but he doesn't mind letting them grab the show. This is pure altruistic - and very good one. Kudos to Alan Arkin.
