Review of Sunshine Cleaning (2008) by Geoffrey T — 11 Apr 2012
This is your typical indie film, but that doesn't make it anywhere near bad. It's very good, actually. It's just something you've seen before, done better and done worse. The performances are good all around, and it's quite funny and engrossing and ultimately touching.
Because it's still fresh in my mind, I want the filmmakers of Adventureland to view this film. This film gives actual reasons why you should like the characters. They have huge problems. The problems are derived from both circumstance and their own incompetence, but it's easy to feel sympathy for these people because they mean well.
They aren't self-absorbed. They are trying so hard to make their lives worth living, and they often fail, but they are good people. The filmmakers understand that. They don't make excuses for them, but they make them likable, and worth rooting for.
I think Greg Mottola can learn alot from it.
