Review of Sunshine (2013) by Damjan R — 18 Sep 2012
Sci-fi stereotypes abound in this celestial undertaking, but they are not wholly unwelcome. While the opening scene of the ship's crew eating and chatting may be overly reminiscent of Alien, Danny Boyle's Sunshine quickly sets itself apart.
The nuanced cinematography of the ship's skeletal frame against a massive star is beautiful unto itself, but Boyle's intimate examination of humanity's instinctual bond with the sun brings Sunshine to a higher level.
Some of the plot pieces may be confusing, but overall this movie is as memorable as it is visually spectacular.
