Review of Sunshine (2007) by Andy D — 28 Sep 2015

Wow! I honestly must have watched this movie 10-15 times now, since first seeing it last year and every single time it still has the same effect on me. Beautiful in so many ways, scary, suspenseful....

. It just has everything. I've read a number of reviews in which the reviewer has taken issue with the 'Event Horizon' style ending but I completely disagree. Yes, the movie does start out as a disaster movie of sorts but I think the horror element is entirely at home here too.

For some reason, space based horror movies just seem so much more terrifying, given the foreign nature of the surroundings and in this instance, I believe it was an extremely effective way of explaining the demise of Icarus 1.

Finally, the soundtrack by John Murphy! Honestly, it is just astonishing! Definitely near the very very top of my all time favourite sci fi movies!
