Review of Sunshine (2007) by Chris M — 17 Oct 2011
While the third act doesn't quite seem to fit with the rest of the film, Sunshine as a whole is still a marvelous film. The visuals are fresh and inspired, the story is intelligent without ever being pretentious or feeling contrived, and the drama feels real.
As a story about survival and madness it works very well, as mentioned its third act feels out of place because it is the only part of the film that feels derivative, but taken as a whole it's good enough that when you finish it won't bother you.
Cillian Murphy did a great job in the lead role and he had a solid supporting cast. It's a sci-fi film that succeeds both artistically as well as intellectually, take that Avatar.
