Review of Sunset Song (2015) by Ken C — 07 Apr 2016
A passion project by Terence Davies in the wake of The House of Mirth (2000), set at Aberdeenshire in the run-up to the great war center around Chris Guthrie (Agyness Deyn) as the daughter, a quiet but determined survivor whom she searches for her independence against the odds of a patriarchal society.
The cinematography by Michael McDonough is a fantastic mix of digital for the interior and 70mm (captures more richness of the environment) film for the exterior that he managed to create a world from the story about the enduring land of its character relationship with the land, a sense of ravishment and cruelty yet a beauty.
