Review of Sunset Boulevard (1950) by Nina L — 01 Oct 2009
A brilliant depiction of Hollywood's ways. The photography is amazing. In order to give the place an older interior design they sprayed some dust in front of the camera.
Gloria Swanson is terrific! She acts each scene as if it was the movie of her life, her last shot. It's hard for an actress not to fall in the grotesque. But she didn't. She looked like Medea. Especially the scene at the studio where she is suddenly "famous" again.
The movie did not win any award but All about Eve, another cult movie, did. It's uncanny that both movies are about opportunism (in Hollywood). Eve is sarcastic and Sunset Boulevard is tragic.
