Review of Sunset Boulevard (1950) by Jeremy B — 05 Jan 2010
A brilliant film, both as a tragic expose on the shoddy way Hollywood treats its aging legends and as the wickedest satire of Tinseltown's excesses and eccentricities ever attempted. Gloria Swanson turns in one of the greatest performances of all time, Von Stroheim turns in one of most gloriously weird performances of all time, and Holden finally emerges as Hollywood's most cynical and yet vulnerable leading man.
