Review of Sunset Boulevard (1950) by Aaron V — 05 Feb 2010
"I am big! It's the pictures that got small!" - Just one of the many great lines in this expertly written dark drama. A classic for sure. Lots of talent on screen and behind the screen no doubt.
On the other hand, there is nobody to really root for since everyone on screen is obsessed with one thing or another. Gloria Swanson is the centerpiece of all the obsession as a has-been actress who cannot let go of her glory days as a Hollywood star.
There is no clear hero or villain. Just a bunch of messed up and misguided people who desperately cling to the very things that are destroying them.
