Review of Sunset Boulevard (1950) by Marcel D — 01 Jun 2010
Brilliant Billy Wilder film that follows a struggling writer and his relationship with a faded star of the silent screen.
I love the mood of this film, the narration gives the film an quasi-noir element that works wonderfully. The characters are big, the language is fantastic... always clever, sometimes genius.
If you're a fan of the classics, this is a film you have to see. There's a reason why this film has survived to this day and why it is embedded in pop culture. See: American Dad: "I was dreamed of having a pool of jello" and Kick-Ass's Dave Lizewski talking about narration from beyond the grave.
