Review of Sunset Boulevard (1950) by Sabrina I — 09 Oct 2010
Sunset Blvd is one of my favorite noirs but I was thinking about it today and I felt like it's also quite a horror film. Gloria Swanson's thick make-up gives made her look so grotesque. Her mansion seems like a funeral palor-a haunted mansion full of memories from a time long gone.
The character of Max is almost Zombie-like, reminded me of a character from the Addams family or something :P And then ofcourse, the film itself is about all the horror's of life-it's on full display here.
The sheer sickness thats seething underneath, what the world of Hollywood turned the character of Norma Desmond into is difficult to watch. The film resonates deeply even today because nothing has changed much.
A true stunner of a film...
