Review of Sunset Boulevard (1950) by Wes M — 23 Jul 2011
Excellent.
My favorite genres are so rewarding! haha.
Noir has some of the best acting and suspense that you can find at the movies. And this was no exception. William Holden was excellent, as usual, but this chick, Gloria Swanson, who I had never heard of, blew me away with her performance. I was like "whoa, where'd she come from! She's awesome" err somethin like that. Turns out she was playing a character lightly based off herself. Nice. If you ever wanna see old, good movies, this is one of em. Plus, the voice-over narration was a great touch, reminded me of Sin City, but this was done more delicately. I found myself glued to the tv for all 2 hours, quite a rarity for the entire film to captivate me. Hmm, Billy Wilder, Ima keep my eyes on you.
