Review of Sunset Boulevard (1950) by Daniel S — 09 Aug 2010
Great movie, very entertaining. I thought it was ironic - maybe intentionally so - that as Norma Desmond decries all the talking in these new fangled sound pictures, this one has sort of a surplus of words.
Max's narration, though well-written and in a recognizable noir vein, often seems overkill, telling us things we should easily be able to deduce from the scenes in front of us, though the observations would undoubtedly be less witty coming from us.
The film could easily rely more on its images and faces - however as is it is still a moving story, very entertaining all the way through.
