Review of Sunset Boulevard (1950) by Aditya M — 01 Jan 2013
Pure brilliance. Each of Billy Wilder's decisions in this film - right from the casting to the choice of camera angles, the narration to the sets, the dialog to the unforgettable closing line is inspired and magnificent.
Sunset Boulevard is very much fictional, yet set in a 'real' Hollywood. Wilder sprinkles true anecdotes and star cameos throughout the movie, and this heightens the illusion of reality and makes us believe the story could be true.
It is an ingenious film, one that is made richer by the story behind it.
