Review of Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans (1927) by Steven B — 02 Jun 2007
The last century of film history has yielded but a few gleaming examples of the heights the medium can attain. "Sunrise"--despite its subtlety, its quiet beauty, its minimalism--is a goddamn Titan of visual storytelling.
I recently showed it to a group of friends and had the pleasure of watching this 80-year-old film evoke laughter, tears and stunned silence in all the right places. A masterpiece.
