By the end of SUNRISE, many things are clear. Murnau is one of the greatest directors of all-time, Janet Gaynor's performance is perfect and SUNRISE is one of the greatest silent era films...make that one of the greatest films ever made.
Its understanding of human suffering and the evils of consumerism is spot on.
