Review of Summer Stock (1950) by Travis J — 09 Jun 2008
The problem with any Gene Kelly movie is the fact that somehow or another you have to work in some sort of horrible, extended tap dance number, regardless of how tangible it would actually be in relation to the plot.
The problem with any Judy Garland movie is that you have to cringe through nearly an hour and a half of bad acting, doing anything you can to keep from screaming out how painfully obvious it is that she only made the film to support her speed addiction.
Mix these two notions together and boom, viola, a movie thats nigh bad enough to be featured on the AMC. After watching this film, I almost feel compelled to watch Paint your Wagon... at least with that film there's absolutely no confusion as to which actors are only doing the film to afford their fix.
